Total BEA Attendance Rose 5.2%

The 2015 edition of BEA drew a total of 20,895 visitors, a 5.2% increase over the 2014 event. The increase came despite a decline in “verified professional attendance,” which fell 1.2% to 10,832.

European Commission Opens Amazon Probe

The European Commission announced that it has opened a formal investigation into some of the e-book practices of Amazon. Specifically, the EC said, it will look into the so-called most-favored-nation clauses that require publishers to inform Amazon if they are offering better or alternative e-book terms to other retailers.

Cochrane Named Publisher of PRH Canada

Penguin Random House Canada CEO Brad Martin announced a number of structural changes. All of PRHC’s adult imprints under Penguin Canada, McClelland & Stewart, and Random House Canada will now be published under a new division, Penguin Random House Canada Publishing Group. The division will be headed up by newly named president and publisher Kristin Cochrane.

Follett Adds 200 College Stores

Follett Corp. will add more than 200 college stores to its portfolio with its purchase of Nebraska Book Company’s retail store division, Neebo.
