Unit sales of print books increased 5% in the week ended Nov. 22, 2015, compared to the similar week last year, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. The nonfiction segments led the gains, as they have much of the fall. Unit sales in adult nonfiction rose 9% over the week ended Nov. 23, 2014. The category was led by a new #1 title, Top Secret Recipes Step-By-Step by Todd Wilbur, which sold more than 33,000 copies in its first week. The juvenile nonfiction category posted a 12% sales increase. The top three titles were familiar: First 100 Words by Roger Priddy took the #1 spot with more than 27,000 copies sold, followed by Johanna Basford’s Enchanted Forest and Secret Garden. In fourth place was Proverbs for Young People by Jack E. Levin, which sold more than 15,000 copies in its first week. Unit sales in adult fiction were up 2% in the week, led by new titles from well-established authors. David Baldacci had the top title, with The Guilty selling more than 60,000 copies, followed by Janet Evanovich’s Tricky Twenty-Two, which sold more than 59,000 copies. Unit sales slipped by less than 1% in juvenile fiction. Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid easily stayed in the top stop on the juvenile fiction list, selling more than 145,000 copies—about six times as many as the Harry Potter Coloring Book, which came in second.
