Unit sales of print books dipped 1% in the week ended Nov. 20, 2016, compared to the similar week last year, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. It was the third consecutive week in which sales fell compared to 2015, but unlike the two previous weeks, one category managed to post a small increase. Unit sales rose 0.6% in the juvenile fiction segment over the week ended Nov. 22, 2015, led by strong debuts for two titles. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay by J.K. Rowling sold just under 100,000 print copies in its first week, while Dork Diaries #11 by Rachel Renée Russell sold more than 51,000 copies. The books were in second and third place, respectively, on the juvenile fiction bestsellers list, trailing Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down, which sold more than 112,000 copies. Unit sales of adult nonfiction fell by less than 1% in the week. The category received a boost from new books by two authors who were highly visible in the recent presidential election. Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly’s Settle for More was #1 on the category list, selling just under 64,000 copies, while Sen. Bernie Sanders’s Our Revolution was in third place, selling about 45,000 copies. Unit sales also fell by less than 1% in adult fiction. Five of the top 10 titles on the category bestsellers list were new. Turbo Twenty-Three by Janet Evanovich was the top fiction seller, moving almost 65,000 units, while No Man’s Land by David Baldacci was in third place, selling more than 49,000 copies. Juvenile nonfiction unit sales fell 7% in the week. There was little movement on that category’s bestsellers list, with the Pokémon Deluxe Essential Handbook in the top spot, selling just less than 15,000 copies in the week.
