This month, Michelle Argyle at Melissa Williams Design reimagines the cover of Practice Makes Purpose by C. Paul Schroeder, who said the new cover “takes the project to another level.”

Design Note #1: Blue is often used in marketing to convey trust and sincerity—something needed for any motivational book.

Design Note #2: The subtitle is very important to this book. Giving it more space ensures that readers will give it a second look.

Design Note #3: I made the flower image stand out by keeping it one color and creating a powerful contrast against the flared background.

Design Note #4: One of the marks of an effective cover is the “pop” factor. Using a warm, golden sun flare does the trick here. It’s inviting, energetic, and dynamic.
