A large decline in the adult nonfiction segment dropped sales of print units 5.7% in the week ended Mar. 14, 2020, compared to the similar week in 2019, at outlets that report to NPD BookScan. The top seller in the category in the most recent week was Untamed by Glennon Doyle, which sold more than 68,000 copies in its first week. Two other new books debuted in second and third place on the category list: Get Out of Your Own Way by Dave Hollis and The Gift of Forgiveness by Katherine Schwarzenegger, which sold more than 27,000 and 25,000 copies, respectively. For the week ended Mar. 16, 2019, Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis was #1 in the category, selling about 73,000 copies. The YA nonfiction category had a big increase in the week, with sales jumping 41.2%. Stamped by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi led the gains, selling more than 13,000 copies in its first week. Juvenile nonfiction unit sales increased 7.9% over 2019. Big Preschool was the category’s #1 title, selling more than 11,000 copies, followed by My First Learn-to-Write Workbook by Crystal Radke, which sold more than 8,000 copies. Print unit sales slipped 1.4% compared to 2019 in the adult fiction category. Two new books topped the category list: Hilary Mantel’s The Mirror & the Light, which sold more than 38,000 copies, and Clive Cussler’s The Journey of the Pharaohs, selling more than 17,000 copies. Juvenile fiction sales were down 6.2% in the week compared to 2019. Fetch-22 (Dog Man #8) by Dav Pilkey returned to the top spot on the bestseller list, selling over 16,000 copies.
