It’s dark by five. The first frost has come and leveled the garden. The rodeo of getting the kids ready for school in the morning is suddenly five times more complicated, because it’s cold and they need three seasons’ worth of gear crammed into their backpacks, because the school keeps the windows open all day, and sometimes it’s cold in there but sometimes it’s not—and did I mention it’s cold? Right, well that can mean only one thing: it’s time to look ahead to what publishers have on tap for the spring and summer. In other words, welcome to our Spring 2022 Adult Announcements issue!

We followed our usual program, inviting publishers to submit information on titles publishing between Feb. 1 and July 31, 2022. Our editors pored over the thousands of submissions to put together what we have here: our takes on the big, surprising, and promising books—as well as those with a certain je ne sais quoi about them—set to hit shelves in the coming months.

Our picks are broken down into 15 categories, each of which has a top 10 and a longlist of notable titles. There’s plenty to look forward to, as you’ll see. (And if you’re hungry for more, cruise on over to publishersweekly.com/announcements, where we have a searchable database of all submissions.)

And one more thing: keep an eye out for our Spring 2022 Children’s Announcements issue, coming February 21. Till then, happy reading!
