For more than 30 years, Dick Snyder was the most powerful—and feared—person in the industry as he built Simon & Schuster into the country’s largest publisher. That abruptly ended June 14, 1994, when he was fired from his position as S&S CEO by Frank Biondi Jr., CEO of parent company Viacom.
