DailyLit, which sends book excerpts to customers via e-mail or RSS feeds, has begun offering the service for free. The company, founded in May 2007, had used a subscription model with fees starting at $4.95 to receive a complete book via e-mail. The service, which has about 800 titles, also experimented with giving away free material. DailyLit will now rely entirely on sponsorships and advertising to generate revenue. CEO and cofounder Susan Danziger said the switch was made "in response to readers' requests."
