In his fascinating new book, The Information (Pantheon), renowned author James Gleick, tackles the ever-growing flood of information and the digital technology that is rapidly changing our lives. So what better time for the author to re-publish his first book, Chaos: Making a New Science, a national bestseller, as well as a National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize finalist, in both traditional and enhanced e-book editions, with upstart digital publisher Open Road?
Today, Open Road officials announced that an enhanced edition of Chaos is now available in Apple’s iBookstore and on Kindle AV platforms. The enhanced e-book includes graphic video, with Gleick’s explanatory voiceover and re-mastered illustrations, seven videos and 60 illustrations re-mastered and adapted for full-color displays. The e-book also includes interviews with leading theoreticians, a video introduction from the author, and motion graphics to complement Gleick’s prose. A free sample chapter of the enhanced e-book is available in both the Apple iBookstore and the Amazon Kindle Store. In addition, “a traditional e-book edition” of Chaos is available wherever e-books are sold. The new editions of Chaos join Gleick’s biographical work Genius: The Life and Science of Richard Feynman, which was released by Open Road as an e-book on February 22, 2011.
And don’t miss our feature interview with Gleick in the upcoming March 28th edition of Publishers Weekly. In our wide-ranging conversation, Gleick, a former editor and reporter for the New York Times, and an Authors Guild member who was involved in negotiating the Google Book Settlement, talks at length about the nature of information, his outstanding new book, as well as the state of the publishing and book industries.
