3M Library Systems is partnering with Barnes & Noble to allow library systems to purchase the Nook GlowLight e-readers directly from the retailer to lend to their patrons. The partnership will allow libraries to provide e-books to patrons who do not have an e-reader, personal computer or mobile device.
The program allows the patrons to choose what titles they want to read from the 3M Cloud Library Collection and have the title loaded into a Nook Glowlight device, which they can borrow. Libraries can buy the devices from their local B&N Community Relatins Managers. The devices are loaded with software that only lets the devices be used through the library account and renders the device inoperable once the lending period has expired.
