Audible has made several updates to the Audible player for iOS, extending the existing app’s natively supported devices to include iPad, iPad2, and new iPad Mini, while also enhancing the app’s performance for the iPhone.

“More than 20% of Audible customers already use Audible’s iPhone app on the iPad,” Ajay Arora, v-p mobile applications, said in a statement. “We’re now delivering a vastly improved listening experience for this quickly growing segment of Audible customers."

Audible’s new interface uses a combination of established and custom design patterns to create a user experience that will be familiar to iPad and iPhone owners. Additionally, the app’s new grid-view library layout focuses on cover art and supports important library management features.

The new iPhone interface is designed to deliver a more streamlined, intuitive, and engaging listening experience, Arora said. The new iPhone release also offers customers simplified start up, additional library filtering, and downloads on the go, which allow the first 50Mb of an audiobook to be downloaded via cellular networks
