Streep Leads an All-Star Cast for Nevins and Macmillan

Meryl Streep joined with Glenn Close, Lena Dunham, Gloria Steinem, Lily Tomlin, and many other noted actors and personalities for the recording of You Don’t Look Your Age and Other Fairy Tales, a collection of short stories and essays by Sheila Nevins, Emmy– and Academy Award–winning TV producer and head of HBO Documentary Films. The audiobook offers Nevins’s look at what being a feminist really means, and how covering the challenges and inequities of being a woman in a man’s world has cost her loved ones and friends. Streep has praised the collection with these words: “Thank you to Sheila Nevins for putting all this down for posterity. Women need this kind of honest excavation of the process of living.” You Don’t Look Your Age and Other Fairy Tales will be published by Macmillan Audio on May 2.

Turner’s Turn at the Mike at Hachette

Accomplished film, stage, and voice actress Kathleen Turner recently recorded the audiobook edition of her memoir, Send Yourself Roses, which was released in print by Grand Central Publishing in 2008. When asked about the timing of the audiobook, Turner told her team at Hachette Audio that she was inspired to do the project after doing a cameo performance on Amy Poehler’s audiobook Yes, Please (HarperAudio) in 2014. Poehler asked Turner why Roses wasn’t available on audio, and the idea took root. The day she finished recording, Turner told Hachette that any trepidation about recording fell away after she read her book again and remembered how much she loved what she had written. Send Yourself Roses pubs on March 21.

Tantor and Rowe Sin Bravely on Audio

In her first book, Sin Bravely, longtime comedy writer and performer Maggie Rowe shares how she discovered the middle ground between heaven and hell. Terrified by the ideas about eternal damnation she had developed as a child and as a dedicated born-again Christian, Rowe checked herself into an evangelical psychiatric facility at age 19. Her account of her time there reads like “a born-again version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest complete with a Nurse Ratched analogue,” according to the PW review. Rowe recently recorded her memoir for Tantor Audio, which will release the audiobook and e-book editions of Sin Bravely on March 28.
