Three special awards to be given out during the Quills were announced today by Reed Business Information, PW’s parent company and Quills founder. The Platinum Quill, which celebrates the life and work of an author, will go to David Halberstam. The Pulitzer Prize-winning Halberstam, who died in a car crash earlier this year, is best known for his groundbreaking book about Vietnam, The Best and the Brightest.

Winning the Quill Variety Blockbuster Book to Film Award is Universal’s Jason Bourne trilogy. The action blockbusters, all based on Robert Ludlum’s series, were selected for the honor by a committee of Variety staffers.

And Time Warner Inc./Time Warner Cable will receive the 2007 Corporate Literacy Quill. The media conglomerate is being honored for its longtime commitment to literacy programs, specifically Time to Read, the oldest and largest corporate literacy program in the country.

The Quill Awards, which will be held on October 22 at Manhattan’s Frederick Rose Hall, will be hosted by Ann Curry and Al Roker, with guest appearances by a number of celebrities including Stephen Colbert, Sarah Ferguson, Tiki Barber and Brooke Shields. A select number of tickets, available to the public for the first time, can be purchased here.
