The Book Industry Study Group (BISG) announced the shortlists for its first annual industry awards and named Wendell Lotz, v-p, metadata at Ingram Book Group, as the winner of its lifetime achievement award.

The awards were open to nomination from BISG members and the shortlists selected by a jury of industry professionals. Among the awards are commendations for a Friend of the Industry, Industry Innovation, Most Valuable Committee Participant, as well as a Disruptor Award recognizing an individual or organization fundamentally challenging the state of publishing. Finalists for the Disruptor Award include Mark Coker, founder, CEO and chief author advocate at Smashwords; Liza Daly, v-p, engineering at Safari Books Online; Allen Lau, CEO and co-founder, Wattpad; and Dominique Raccah, publisher and CEO, Sourcebooks.

“These awards reflect the incredible diversity, talent, and creativity in the publishing value chain," said BISG executive director Len Vlahos. "We congratulate the nominees and thank our very dedicated jury for selecting from an exceptional pool of nominees.”

The awards will be presented at the BISG annual meeting on September 27 at the Yale Club in New York City.
