Six books were named to the 2013 Man Booker Prize for Fiction shortlist on the morning of September 10. The finalists are:

We Need New Names by NoViolet Bulwayo (Little, Brown)

The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton (Little, Brown)

Harvest by Jim Crace (Nan A. Talese)

The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri (Knopf)

A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki (Viking)

The Testament of Mary by Colm Toibin (Scribner)

The six remaining books were pared down from the 13 books on the longlist. The winner will be announced on October 15 and win a prize of £50,000. Last year's winner was Hilary Mantel for Bring Up the Bodies.
