St. Martin's Michael Flamini has preempted journalist Mike Magner's new book on currently embattled oil giant British Petroleum in a major six-figure deal. Ronald Goldfrab at Goldfarb & Associates brokered the deal for Magner, who's been researching BP for a number of years, focusing on allegations that the company has been involved in various cases of pollution.

SMP, recognizing the overlap between Magner's work and the current oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico which BP is responsible for--and which has quickly become the most disastrous oil spill in U.S. history--said the author is "uniquely positioned as a writer with the sources and material to explore British Petroleum’s history of aggressive exploration for oil and gas...and a culture of maximizing profits at the expense of safety and health."
