Last June, Globe Corner Bookstore in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Mass., closed its doors after it was unable to find a buyer for its bricks-and-mortar store. But it kept its Web site open. Now Globe Corner is back in a smaller format as part of Brookline Booksmith in Brookline, Mass. A wooden sign from the Harvard Square store marks Brookline’s new Globe Corner Travel Annex. The store has also purchased the Globe Corner Web site, trademarks, and trade names.

“We’re so excited to be folding more of the Globe Corner into what we do and sharing that with our community and beyond,” said Brookline manager and co-owner Dana Brigham. As part of the deal Brookline has expanded its travel section and added 2,000 travel map titles and a large wall map selection. In the coming year Brigham plans to continue to grow the travel area with the addition of travel accessories and outdoor recreation.

For now, Brookline plans to operate the Globe Corner Web site independently from the store’s own site, although it will integrate the two. Patrick Carrier, the founder of Globe Corner, is consulting with Brookline on both the annex and the Web site integration. “As the Globe Corner celebrates its 30th anniversary,” he said, “it is a great pleasure to pass on its legacy to an extraordinary local bookseller that is marking its 50th.”
