Unit sales of print book rose 2% in the week ended Apr. 27, 2014 compared to week 17 of 2013 at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. The increase was the fourth week in a row book sales in 2014 surpassed those of the comparable week of 2013 and was the first week where Easter was not a major factor. The mass merchandiser channel had another up week after a slow beginning to the year, with sales rising 4% in week 17 of 2014 compared to the week ended Apr. 28, 2013. Both the juvenile categories had double-digit gains in the week, although no new title had a big impact. Two editions of The Fault in Our Stars were in the first and fifth spots on the fiction list, bookending three Divergent books. With sales of Easter books falling away, two Minecraft titles went one-two in juvenile nonfiction. Adult nonfiction sales slipped by less than 1% in week 17 of 2014 compared to the week ended Apr. 28, 2013 despite a strong first sales week by Smart Money Smart Kids by Dave Ramsey and Rachel Cruze which sold over 75,000 copies at outlets that report to BookScan. The title was published by Ramsey’s Lampo Press division.
