Solid gains in the adult fiction and juvenile nonfiction categories lifted print unit sales up 4.7% in the week ended May 2, 2020, over the comparable week in 2019, at outlets that report to NPD BookScan. The 11% increase in sales in the adult fiction segment was led by the debut of John Grisham’s Camino Winds, which sold more than 82,000 copies in its first week. Danielle Steel’s The Wedding Dress landed in the sixth spot on the category list, selling nearly 20,000 copies in its first week. The juvenile nonfiction category had the strongest sales increase compared to the week ended May 4, 2019, with print units up 28.4%. Once again, the top 10 sellers in the category were released by independent publishers, led by My First Learn-to-Write Workbook by Crystal Radke, which sold almost 27,000 copies for Rockridge Press. In addition to Workbook, Rockridge had three other titles among the top 10 category bestsellers, which together sold about 28,000 copies. Workman Publishing also had four books on the category bestseller lists, including three Brain Quest titles. Print unit sales rose 1.4% in adult nonfiction, where Magnolia Table, Vol. 2 by Joanna Gaines remained #1 in the category, selling nearly 58,000 copies. Relationship Goals by Michael Todd sold nearly 44,000 copies in its first week. Todd’s Relationship Goals Study Guide sold more than 11,000 copies, landing it in ninth place on the category list. The juvenile fiction segment had a 0.7% increase in unit sales over 2019, with Oh, the Places You Go! by Dr. Seuss at #1.
