7/16 Derby City Comic Con

On July 16, the 2011 Derby City Comic Con will take place in Louisville, KY and feature such guests as Gary Friedrich, Janet K. Lee, Rick Ketcham and Steve Bird. Derby City Comic Con will be located at the Kentucky International Convention Center at 221 Fourth Street, Louisville, KY. Hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tickets are $7, children 12 and under may enter free of charge with a paying adult.

7/19 – Grant Morrison in New York

Eisner-winning comics creator Grant Morrison will celebrate the releas of his new book Supergods with a signing in New York City at Midtown Comics. The book, which can be best explained by its full title, Supergods: What Masked Vigilantes, Miraculous Mutants, and a Sun God from Smallville Can Teach Us About Being Human, is the longtime comics creator's analysis and personal take on the deeper meaning and appeal of the superhero. The event is free to the general public and takes place on Tuesday, July 17, from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Grand Central branch of Midtown Comics, located at 459 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY.

7/20 Twisted Savage Dragon Event with Dean Haspiel, Michel Fiffe and More in New York

Many of the cutting edge comics creators whose work is collected in the anthology Twisted Savage Dragon Funnies will appear at a special event at Jim Hanley's Universe in New York City to celebrate the release of the book in paperback. With sixteen of the anthology's contributors in attendence, the event will have the largest creator guest list the famous comics shop has ever hosted – the full list of attendees is available here. Copies of Twisted Savage Dragon Funnies will be available for sale and signing at the event. The celebration takes place from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, at Jim Hanley's Univese at 4 West 33rd Street at 5th Avenue, New York, NY.The event is open free to the public.

7/26 An Evening with Bill Plympton in San Francisco

Oscar-nominated animator and cartoonist Bill Plympton will appear at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco with a special showing of his in-progress animation project as well as his new animated music video for Weird Al , and a live drawing demonstration from Plympton. The $10 admission price will include a complementary original drawing by Plympton himself for every attendee. The screening will take place from 6 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, at the Cartoon Art Museum, located at 655 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA.
