8/8-8/11: Wizard World Chicago Comic Con in Chicago, IL

Wizard World blows into the Windy City, bringing loads of comic and pop culture related entertainment to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center on August 8–11. Programming includes celebrity meet and greets, comic panels and workshops, exhibitors, artist signings and more. Comics guests include Stan Lee, artist Ethan Van Sciver (Green Lantern), writer Scott Snyder (Batman, American Vampire), artist Alan Davis (Captain America, Wolverine), writer Chris Claremont (X-Men), artist Greg Land (Iron Man) and more. 8/10: Trillium #1 Release Party in Portland, ME

Meet award-winning writer/artist Jeff Lemire (Animal Man, The Underwater Welder, Sweet Tooth) and celebrate the release of the first issue of his new Vertigo series, Trillium, at Casablanca Comics from 12-3 p.m. Trillium tells the story of botanist Nika Temsmith and explorer William Pike, soul mates who are separated by thousands of miles and two millennia, yet are able to share a bond that defies space and time. 8/10-8/11: Portland Zine Symposium ’13 in Portland, OR

Long live D.I.Y. at the 13th annual Portland Zine Symposium – a unique gathering of zine creators and enthusiasts taking place on August 10–11th at the Ambridge Event Center in Portland, OR. Programming includes how-to workshops, discussions on the significance of independent publishing, games, a bake sale, raffles and of course a plethora of zines to buy and sell. 8/10-8/26: Stripped: Comics and Graphic Novels Laid Bare in Edinburgh, UK

Part of the 30th annual Edinburgh International Book Festival, Stripped is a celebration in graphic novels and comics culture taking place from August 10–26th at the Charlotte Square Gardens in Edinburgh. Comics and creators from all over the world will meet to discuss comics old and new and for all ages. There will be readings, workshops, discussions, the 9th Art Award Ceremony, live comic creation, creator spotlights, a mini comic fair and more. Guests include Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison, Chris Ware, Joe Sacco, Glyn Dillon, Paul Gravett, Melinda Gebbie, Rutu Modan, Bryan & Mary Talbot, Paul Cornll, Denise Mina and more. Entry to Stripped is free, although many events cost £5.
