Cartoonist Brian Ralph (The Cave-In, Daybreak) will be signing copies of his new book Reggie-12 (Drawn & Quarterly) from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10 at Mission: Comics & Art in San Francisco, CA. Originally appearing in the Asian culture magazine Giant Robot, Reggie-12 is a send-up/parody of Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy and other classic Japanese cartoons, depicted in Ralph's spot-on throwback style in a handsome 12"x9" format. Join cartoonists Frank Santoro and Anya Davidson for a double book release party for their new books, Pompeii and School Spirits at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Septemeber 4th at Bergen Street Comics in Brooklyn, NY. Both Santoro and Davidson are leading voices of the alt comics scene and their new works (published by PictureBox) push the boundaries of sequential storytelling and will expand the mind of readers. 9/14: Jim Lee Signing and Appearance in Concord, CA
Meet superstar artist and DC Comics co-publisher Jim Lee on Saturday, September 14th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Flying Color Comics & Other Cool Stuff in Concord, CA. Lee first rose to prominence in the 1990s with his run on the record-breaking Uncanny X-Men and then shook the comics world with the founding of Image Comics where he worked on creator-owned titles like WildC.A.T.S.. Since then he's been one of the industry's most sought after artists, working on characters like the Fantastic Four, Batman and Superman. In 2010, Lee was named co-publisher of DC Comics, and his recent work has included Justice League and Superman Unchained. Join the best and brightest small press creators for a two-day festival showcasing emerging and established talent from around the independent comics industry at the Small Press Expo (SPX) on September 14-15 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in North Bethesda, MD. Programming includes creator Q&As and showcases, symposiums on the impact of comics and the ins-and-outs of publishing in 2013, and the annual Ignatz Award ceremony recognizing extraordinary achievement in comics and cartooning.
