3/17: Frank Santoro in Columbus, OH

Comics creator and critic Frank Santoro will be presenting 'Frank Santoro: From Grid to Spread,' a lecture about his most recent work, Pompeii (Picture Box), at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 17th in the Will Eisner Room at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum in Columbus, Ohio. Pompeii centers on a philandering painter and his apprentice in the final days before Mt. Vesuvias' historic eruption. Santoro will discuss his method in creating the book, which emphasizes layout and composition as well as timing. This event is free to the public, RSVP recommended. 3/20: Trina Robbins in Pittsburgh, PA

To mark the beginning of Pittsburgh Indy Comics Weekend, comics creator, editor, and historian Trina Robbins will be hosting a special opening night presentation at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 20th at the ToonSeum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Robbins has been a fixture in the underground comix movement since the 1970s, editing anthologies such as Wimmen's Comix, and later working on mainstream titles like Wonder Woman for DC Comics. She's also authored a number of books about comics including A Century of Women's Comics (Kitchen Sink), and most recently, Pretty In Ink (Fantagraphics). This event is $10, $5 for members. 3/21: Billy Ireland Museum Opening Receptions in Columbus, OH

Opening receptions for two exhibitions, 'Exploring Calvin and Hobbes' and 'The Force Meets the Immovable Object,' are taking place on Friday, March 21st from 6-8 p.m. in the Sullivant Hall at The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum in Columbus, OH. The exhibits explore the decades-spanning work of two of the most revered comic strip creators, Bill Waterson, the creator of Calvin and Hobbes, and Richard Thompson, creator of Cul-De-Sac. 3/21-3/23: MegaCon 2014 in Orlando, FL

It's a comics explosion at MegaCon, one of the southeast U.S.'s biggest comic book conventions, taking place from Friday, March 21st to Sunday, March 23rd at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Programming includes panels including 'All About DC,' World Building,' 'Spotlight on Bill Sienkiewicz,' 'Breaking into Indie Comics,' cosplay contests, screenings, gaming, and more. Comics guests include Stan Lee, Adam Kubert, Chuck DIxon, Greg Land, Amanda Conner, J. Scott Campbell, Mark Waid, Nick Bradshaw, Ron Marz, and many more. 3/22: Pittsburgh Indy Comics Expo in Pittsburgh, PA

Celebrate self-published and creator-owned comics at the Pittsburgh Indy Comix Expo (PIX), taking place all day on Saturday, March 22nd at the Federation of Teachers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The expo gives independent cartoonists and illustrators a chance to meet and share their work with fans and other creators. Comics guests include Farel Dalyrymple, Theo Ellsworth, Gary Groth, Ed Piskor, Trina Robbins, Tom Scioli, and Craig Yoe. This event is free to the public.
