Comics artists Gene Luen Yang and Ulli Lust have been awarded L.A. Times Book Prizes for Young Adult Literature and Graphic Novels respectively for 2013. The prizes were awarded April 11 at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

Yang received the L.A. Times Book Prize for Young Adult Literature for Boxers and Saints, a two-books-in-one work of graphic historical fiction that tells the story of the Boxer Rebellion from both sides. The books are published by First Second.

Ulli Lust was awarded the L.A. Times Book Prize for Graphic Novels for Today is the Last Day of the Rest of Your Life, a comics memoir and the hair-raising story of a 1980s Austrian punk rock chick hitchhiking to Italy with a highly unstable companion and her subsequent maturation. The book is published by Fantagraphics.

Both books are PW Best Books of 2013.
