7/3–7/6: Florida Supercon in Miami, FL

Florida Supercon, Miami's biggest convention, is taking place July 3–6 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Florida. The show draws in thousands of attendees and boasts over 100 comic book creators and 1,000 events over four days. Programming includes panels and workshops such as "Tips and Tricks for Aspiring Writers," "Marvel Comics: Meet the Artists," "Playing in Someone Else's Playground: Writing for an Established Franchise," "Why We Love Comic Books," and "Putting the Science in Science Fiction," portfolio reviews, artist spotlights, live podcast recordings, cosplay competitions, screenings, gaming, and more. Comics guests include Steve McNiven, Nick Bradshaw, Neal Adams, Tony Bedard, Peter David, Ramona Fradon, José Luis García-López, Mark Morales, Denny O'Neil, George Pérez, and Joe Rubenstein. Single day tickets are $25–30; two day passes are $45; three day passes are $65; four day passes are $75 (add an additional $5 if bought on site); VIP passes are $199. 7/5: Mike Mignola in Manhattan Beach, CA

Join Hellboy creator Mike Mignola celebrate the character's 20th anniversary as well as the release of Hellboy: Artist's Edition (IDW) on Saturday, July 5 from 1-3pm at The Comic Bug in Manhattan Beach, California. In additiom to a signing, a selection original pages from Hellboy will be on display, and a raffle will be held to with a chance to win a piece by Mignola. Hellboy: Artist's Edition contains the first five issue's of the series, Hellboy's first appearance, three additional stories chosen by Mignola, and pages of supplementary material. 7/5 Ed Brubaker in Los Angeles, CA

Award-winning writer Ed Brubaker will be reading from the first volume Velvet (Image) on Saturday, July 5th at 5pm at Skylight Books in Los Angeles, California. Velvet (illustrated by Steve Epting) is the story of Velvet Templeton, an ex-spy who's laid low for a number of years, but becomes implicated in the murder of a secret agent, and is now on the run and out to clear her name. 7/5: Matt Smith in Cambridge, MA

Cartoonist Matt Smith will be signing copies of his new graphic novel, Barbarian Lord (Clarion Books), on Saturday, July 5 from 2–4pm at The Million Year Picnic in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The book follows the Conan-esque Barbarian Lord, an unrivaled warrior and wordsmith, as he lays waste upon his enemies including trolls, berserkers, sorcerers, and craven bards. This event is free.
