With sales up in all three of its operating units, revenue at John Wiley rose 13% in the quarter ended July 31, 2021, over last year, rising to $488 million. Operating income jumped 36%, to $41 million.

Revenue in Wiley’s largest group, research publishing and platforms, rose 14% in the quarter, to $274.7 million. Revenue rises were driven by strong growth in open research, platforms, and corporate sales, as well as acquisitions, Wiley reported.

Sales in the academic and professional learning division were up 10%, to $139.3 million. Within the group, sales in the education segment rose 4%, to $66.4 million, while sales in its professional unit increased 16%, to $72.9 million. Wiley said sales in the group were led by strong growth in digital courseware and professional publishing, as well as the further recovery in corporate training. Education services sales increased 16%, to $74.4 million.

Wiley expects revenue for the full fiscal year to increase between 6.5% and 8.1% over fiscal 2021, with adjusted earnings of $415 million to $435 million, compared to earnings of $419 million last year.
