Another major industry player is expanding its reach to fill the void in getting books to libraries following the collapse of Baker & Taylor.
In an email sent out Tuesday morning, Barnes & Noble began upping its efforts to promote its &Classwork e-commerce portal, the retailer’s B2B ecommerce site launched in 2020. Through the portal, B&N ships books to such customers as libraries, schools, and nonprofits and offers discounts between 20%-35% off most titles.
Institutional and corporate customers can complete their transaction through the ecommerce site or request assistance on the site. To complement the online segment, the program allows libraries to reach out to B&N representatives at their local store for assistance in placing orders through the system. For libraries that don’t have institutional or corporate accounts representatives at the B&N stores can facilitate the process for them to apply for an institutional account or corporate account.
B&N joins such companies as Ingram Content Group, Bookazine, Amazon, Follett Content, and Mackin in expanding their services in the wake of the B&T shutdown.
