BISG has announced the launch of Find a Rightsholder, a searchable database with information on how to reach rights and persmissions contacts for more than 3,500 imprints. Unlike title management tools that seek to facilitate dealmaking and take a cut of any transaction, Find a Rightsholder is focused solely on helping the publishing community locate relevant contacts for U.S. and U.K. publishers.

According to the BISG announcement, the tool allows users to identify “who owns what,” connect with the right contacts, and take actionable steps to secure content rights more efficiently.

The creation of Finds a Rightsholder was overseen by the BISG Rights Committee, which is chaired by veteran rights expert Kris Kleimann. BISG underwrote the launch of Find a Rightsholder, which was previewed at BISG’s April annual meeting, and the database is free to use. The organization is encouraging publishers and rights professionals to contribute updates, corrections, or new contact details for imprints. All submissions are reviewed and verified to ensure the tool remains accurate and relevant, BISG said in its announcement.

“Without rights, there are no revenue streams,” said BISG executive director Brian O'Leary, in a statement. “This tool is part of our broader effort to build the infrastructure that enables rights transactions, minimizes errors, and opens doors for new licensing opportunities.”
