Former publishing executive Rubin Pfeffer, who was most recently senior v-p and publisher of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, has gone to the agenting side and is opening an East Coast office for the Los Angeles outfit, East/West Literary. Pfeffer has been brought on as an agent and partner, and will be based in Boston, handling digital initiatives, among other things, for the agency, which specializes in representing children's authors and illustrators. According to an announcement from EWA, Pfeffer will be “developing and creating content for the 21st-century incarnations of publishing, both electronic and traditional print.”

Pfeffer, who took over the executive post at S&S Children's in 2005, and left the company—along with then-president Rick Richter—in December 2008, had worked at Harcourt for 26 years, then moved to Pearson Education. Since leaving S&S, Pfeffer has been working informally with a number of authors and is now officially bringing them on as clients—his list at EWA includes Stephen Cosgrove, David Diaz, Richard Jesse Watson, the Lilla Rogers Studio, John Sansevere, Michael J. Rosen, Sonja Lamut, Timothy J. Bradley, Lisa Green, Faith Pray, and Dr. Robert Penczak. Pfeffer will also be continuing the consulting work he's been doing for the children's publishing companies kidthing.com and FableVision.
