HarperCollins announced that Dawn Davis, editorial director of the Amistad imprint, has been promoted to publisher of that imprint, and will now also serve as executive editor of Ecco, reporting to Dan Halpern.

In her previous role, Davis acquired many successful titles, including the Pulitzer- and NBCC-winning The Known World by Edward P. Jones and Chris Gardener’s The Pursuit of Happiness, which was made into a film starring Will Smith. She will continue to oversee Amistad, and in her new role with Ecco, she will acquire general interest fiction, memoir, and nonfiction.

In a press release, Dan Halpern, president and publisher of Ecco, said of Davis, “She’s one of the most interesting and talented publishers in the business and I’m excited to begin what I know is going to be a fruitful relationship for everyone involved.”
