As Japan struggles with horrifying devastation and loss, Random House this week announced one bright spot: its Tokyo regional sales manager for Random House International, Akiko Iwamoto, is safe, and she, along with her family, are now in New York.

Last weekend, Iwamoto was finally able to contact Random House international sales svp Cyrus Kheradi to let him know she was accounted for. Iwamoto’s husband was in New York on business, and with the help of Kheradi, Iwamoto and her sons made it to Manhattan. The Bertelsmann Emergency Hotline, Random House’s parent company’s 24-hour resource that helps employees access emergency medical and safety assistance, also assisted in bringing Iwamoto and her family to New York, where Iwamoto will work for at least the next two weeks until safety concerns in greater Tokyo are more clearly determined.
