Given clearance by the Canadian government to expand its Canadian operations, Simon & Schuster has added the title of publisher to S&S Canada president Kevin Hanson’s responsibilities. Hanson in turn announced two promotions--appointing director of sales Alison Clarke associate publisher and naming Phyllis Bruce editor of Phyllis Bruce Editions.

Hanson has served as president of S&S Canada since 2005 directing what, up until now, has been a marketing operation for titles that originated in the U.S. and U.K. But recent changes in the Canadian government’s stance toward foreign publishers has freed the company to begin its own editorial and publishing activities. “Kevin is perfectly suited to lead Simon & Schuster Canada in this exciting endeavor, which will increase our ability to publish authors from the entire English-speaking world on a global scale,” wrote S&S CEO Carolyn Reidy in a memo announcing the appointment.

In making his appointments, Hanson said he was “very excited to be joined by Alison and Phyllis to lauch our publishing program at Simon & Schuster Canada. I am confident that we have the cornerstones for a successful team to anchor the truly “Made in Canada” publishing program.”
