St. Paul, Minn.–based nonprofit Little Free Library has announced that its executive director, Greig Metzger, will retire in June 2025. A national search for his successor will be conducted by Kittleman and Associates, an executive search firm specializing in nonprofits.
Metzger has served in his current role since July 2019. Previously, he was executive director for Open Cupboard, previously called CCEFS, a food pantry in Oakdale, Minn. Prior to that, he spent decades working in marketing technology and finance in New York and the Twin Cities.
During his time at LFL, Metzger guided the nonprofit through the pandemic, moved its offices from Hudson, Wisc., to St. Paul, and increased the number of book-sharing boxes around the world, with a focus on offering diverse titles. Shortly after his 2019 appointment, LFL celebrated its 100,000th Little Free Library book-sharing box; this March, it will celebrate its 200,000th.
“As I step away from Little Free Library, I want to express my gratitude for such a wonderful opportunity,” said Metzger in a statement. “I was fortunate enough to have great staff whose commitment, creativity and mission focus led to our successes. And I would be remiss in not recognizing our global network of volunteer stewards, without which, none of our achievements would have been possible. Finally, I need to acknowledge all of our community partners, corporate sponsors, and publishing friends for their support. I am confident that Little Free Library is well poised to move ahead and I am excited to see what the future brings.”
