In a move that ensures that Kensington Publishing will continue to be led by a member of the Zacharius family, Adam Zacharius has been named president of one of the country’s largest independent publishers.
Zacharius began working at the publisher in 2007, initially managing the company’s former filmmaking arm, Kensington Media, from the West Coast. Following the death of company founder Walter Zacharius in 2011, he returned to New York to become more deeply involved in the company’s day-to-day operations. He was most recently VP and general manager, working alongside his father, Steven, who remains chairman and CEO.
“I’m incredibly excited to step into the role of president,” said Adam in a statement. “From starting in the mailroom as a small child to working closely with my father as an adult, the journey has been deeply meaningful. I’m proud to help lead this company alongside the best team in publishing.”
Steven emphasized that the appointment reflects continuity, not transition. “Adam has been integral to the company’s growth and evolution over the past 15 years, and I am confident that he will do great things in his role as president,” he said. “I believe we are the only third-generation publishing company in the business, and I am fortunate to have four grandchildren, so hopefully the trend will continue.”
