McGraw Hill has named Philip Moyer to succeed Simon Allen as its new president and CEO. Moyer will take over those roles February 9 with Allen, who oversaw MH’s transition from a privately-held company to a publicly-traded one, remaining on board as chairman.

At a moment when onetime college publishers continue to morph into education technology companies, Moyer’s background is in technology, having most recently served as CEO of Vimeo, where he launched an AI-first video strategy. He previously spent five years at Alphabet, helping launch Google's generative AI strategy and serving as global VP of applied AI engineering and business development for Google Cloud.

Earlier in his career, Moyer cofounded IEP+ Orion System Group, where he built one of the first digital Individualized Education Programs designed to help K-12 schools manage special education curriculums, testing scores, and regulatory reporting. He also worked for a period at Microsoft and Amazon where he managed global customer teams. He started his career as a software engineer for nuclear submarines at GE Aerospace after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in computer science.

In prepared comments, Moyer said he was "thrilled to join McGraw Hill at such a pivotal time" when the use of advanced technology has "the power to shape the future of education." He added that MH's "trusted brand—combined with its content, data, scale and customer relationships—creates a unique opportunity to harness AI to deliver personalized learning experiences."

Late last year, MH reported a small decline in revenue for the six-month period ended November 30, 2025, with sales slipping from $1.21 billion to $1.20 billion. Net income fell to $105.8 million from $123.9 million in the prior six months. Despite the small declines, MH projects a strong finish from the fiscal year ending in March.
