The International Association of Culinary Professionals held its annual conference in Portland, Ore., last week. The conference culminated with an awards ceremony, where 20 cookbooks were honored. Some of the biggest names in cookbooks landed in the winner's circle: baking powerhouse Rose Levy Beranbaum took home the prize for best baking book and best cookbook of the year, and Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc at Home won for best chef and restaurant book. But a few little guys won, too, with an upset in the "general cookbook" category as Stephanie Alexander's Kitchen Garden Companion, an Australian title which is currently selling on Amazon for $132, beat out Get Cooking by Mollie Katzen, whose Moosewood Cookbook still captivates readers 30 years after its original publication. And a somewhat obscure book won the people's choice award: The Cancer-Fighting Kitchen: Nourishing, Big-Flavor Recipes for Cancer Treatment and Recovery by Rebecca Katz and Mat Edelson (Celestial Arts), which PW gave a starred review to. Read on for the complete list of winners.
