Garden City, N.Y.-based Square One Publishers has acquired Safe Goods Publishing, based in Sheffield, Mass. Through the deal Square One, as of August 28, takes charge of the company's existing stock and backlist.

Safe Goods, founded in 1993, specializes in the categories of diet, health and nutrition, and publishes such titles as The ADD & ADHA Diet by Rachel Bell and Dr. Howard Peiper, and Kids First by Dr. Ogi Ressel. The deal, the principals said, came in part through a standing relationship--Square One publisher Rudy Shur published one of Anderson's books when he ran Avery Publishing Group. For her part, Anderson said she hopes the acquisition will help the indie press get greater exposure for its titles which, up until now, have not found much traction in the trade market, selling, predominantly, into the alternative health markets.

Square One Publishers will begin taking orders for Safe Goods Publishing titles on August 16, and processing returns on August 30.
