For the week ending October 21 on Nielsen BookScan, the overall bestsellers chart looked very different that the prior week: four of the top 10 titles were debuts. The new books were The Panther by Nelson DeMille (#3; 42,000 copies sold), The Bone Bed by Patricia Cornwell (#6; 35,000 copies sold), The Twelve by Justin Cronin (#7; 32,000 copies sold), and Hidden by P.C. Cast (#10; 28,000 copies sold).

Bill O'Reilly's Killing Kennedy was the overall #1 bestseller with 67,000 copies sold in the week, bringing its total to 271,000 copies sold at outlets followed by BookScan. Mainstays Riordan (58,000 copies), E.L. James (39,000 copies), and Rowling (39,000 copies) rounded out the top five. Mark Bowden's The Finish debuted with 7,000 copies sold.
