U.K.-based children’s book publisher Kingfisher has scaled back its U.S. operations, cutting its staff from three to one and reducing the number of titles it will release per season from 60 to about 35 (Kingfisher has three seasons). Among those let go was Brian Buerkle who joined the company as associate publisher and director of marketing last year.

According to marketing manager Marina Cambareri, Kingfisher has marketing plans in place for its 2013 list, has committed to titles for 2014 and is beginning to build its 2015 list as well. The company will focus on a number of key series, including Basher Books and Kingfisher Readers, and may add a few new series. All editorial will continue to be done in Kingfisher’s U.K. office.
