Reese Witherspoon has selected Next Year In Havana (Berkley), by Chanel Cleeton, as her July book club pick.

“It's a beautiful novel that's full of forbidden passions, family secrets, and a lot of courage and sacrifice,” Witherspoon said in a statement. Inspired by true events in the author's family’s history, the novel "illuminates," the publisher said, "the enduring heartbreak and unwavering hope of a country torn by revolution."

The book is set in 1950s Cuba, and follows a young woman who travels to Havana "to honor her late grandmother’s dying wish—and unearths a family secret hidden since the Cuban Revolution." A follow-up novel, When We Left Cuba, releases in April of 2019.
