Skyhorse Publishing plans to start a new romance imprint this fall. Palomino Press will be led by Skyhorse publicity director Kathleen Schmidt, who will serve as editorial director while continuing to head the publisher’s publicity efforts. She will continue to report to Skyhorse group editorial director Mark Gompertz.

Schmidt told PW that Palomino’s focus will mostly be on contemporary romance. She expects to launch the inaugural list with at least five books, and plans to do 10 to 15 titles annually. Palomino will publish across print books, e-books, and audio.

Commenting on the launch of Palomino, Tony Lyons, president and publisher of Skyhorse, said, “As Skyhorse Publishing has grown over the years, we have noticed increasing sales with our Amish romances, particularly books by Linda Byler. It seems right to expand the category with Palomino Press.”
