Sarah Crichton will "step back from her duties as editor-in-chief" at Henry Holt & Co., assuming the role of editor-at-large on July 5, Holt president and publisher Amy Einhorn has announced in a letter to staff.

Crichton joined Holt in 2020, and previously served as publisher of her eponymous imprint at Farrar, Straus and Giroux from 2004-2018. Among her authors at Holt were Carl Bernstein, Cathleen Schine, and Michael Wolff.

A search for a successor will begin "immediately," Einhorn added. Until a successor is found, executive editors Tim Duggan, Riva Hocherman, Serena Jones, and Retha Powers, as well as senior editors Shannon Criss and Caroline Zancan, will report to Einhorn.

"Whether she's asking you for one more round of revisions on flap copy (and yes, it always does turn out better after!), her jolt of excitement when she reads a submission she adores, or belting out karaoke at the holiday party, Sarah’s enthusiasm and passion has touched all of us," Einhorn said. "From day one Sarah has been a major presence at Holt and I am grateful for all of the care and time she has spent with our authors and staff."
