In a major shakeup at HarperCollins UK, longtime CEO Charlie Redmayne has resigned and the company has named Kate Elton interim CEO. It is announcement, HC did not give a reason for Redmayne’s departure.
Elton will sit on HC’s global executive committee and have responsibility for the U.K. and Ireland, reporting to HC president and CEO Brian Murray. HarperCollins India and Australia/New Zealand will now report to Murray. HC said an announcement about a permanent replacement for Redmayne “will be made in due course.”
Redmayne first joined HC UK as group digital director in 2008 and was promoted to chief digital officer before leaving the company in 2011 to launch and run J.K. Rowling’s digital publishing business Pottermore. He returned to HC UK as CEO in 2013.
Elton joined HC UK in 2011 and since 2023 has served as group managing director for the adult commercial divisions, which incorporate HarperFiction, HarperNonFiction, Avon, One More Chapter, HarperNorth, HQ, Mills & Boon and Pavilion.
