Stable Distribution, the distribution company focused on indie publishers and formed in June by the Stable Book Group and Hachette Book Group, has announced its a new slate of client publishers, led by McSweeney's, the independent publishing house founded by Dave Eggers and known for its literary journal McSweeney's Quarterly Concern and its diverse catalog of fiction and nonfiction books.
Joining McSweeney's at Stable are Pigna, the Italian notebook and stationery company founded in 1839 that is now expanding into North America; Gloo Books, a children's publisher focused on stories promoting empathy, inclusivity, and sustainability; Marble Press, which publishes children's and young adult books including graphic novels and picture books; and Amber Books, a U.K.-based illustrated reference publisher whose list spans military history, technology, natural history, and visual culture. Four new partners will go live in January 2026, with Marble Press to follow in March.
These new publishers join the other publishers, announced in September, already signed up to use the service, which include Bushel & Peck Books, Empress Editions, Fayetteville Mafia Press, Galpón Press, Islandport Press, Notable Kids, PUG (Pan‐Universal Galactic Worldwide), Whitefox, and Worldwide Buddies in addition to The Stable Book Group’s imprints and partners: Montague Books, Mountain Gazette, Skybox Press, Trafalgar Square Books, Ulysses Press, and VeloPress Books.
"Having McSweeney's join Stable Distribution marks an incredible moment for our model," Chris Gruener, CEO of the Stable Book Group, said in a statement. "They represent the highest standard of literary and design excellence in independent publishing. Alongside our new partners—spanning heritage stationery brands, innovative children's houses, and global illustrated publishers—we're continuing to prove that independents thrive when they have access to world-class infrastructure."
Six members of the Stable Book Group—Ulysses Press, Trafalgar Square Books, VeloPress Books, Skybox Press, Montague Books, and Mountain Gazette Books—are also client publishers for Stable Distribution.
McSweeney's executive director and publisher Amanda Uhle said the company requires a distribution partner with the same level of ambition that has kept McSweeney's going for almost three decades. "Stable Distribution is a dream for us because they believe in excellent writing and elegant books and have the expertise to vastly increase the presence of our authors' work and the opportunities for readers to find it," Uhle said.
Stable Distribution will begin its distribution program in partnership with HBG in January 2026.
