HarperAlley, HarperCollins's graphic novel, manga, and manhwa imprint, has announced that it will launch its inaugural adult list in the summer of 2027. The imprint plans to release 6–10 adult books per year and 2–3 per season, with VP and publisher Andrew Arnold and editors across various HarperCollins imprints acquiring titles.

Originally announced in 2024, HarperAlley's expansion into adult books will begin with the first volume in a new series by Eisner- and Harvey-Award nominated cartoonist Jeff Lemire and Teddy Kristiansen, Mr. Oblivion, Volume 1: Incantations, which follows the retired occult detective Marty McCabe and explores "family, addiction, mortality, and the masks we all wear," per the publisher.

Other titles include Vreeland, a memoir by Chad Sell, best known for his middle grade series The Cardboard Kingdom, and The ArchAndroid, a graphic novel based on the eponymous Janelle Monáe album and co-created by Monáe, Chuck Lightning, and Chad Weatherford.

“Since launching our children's graphic novel program in the fall of 2020, HarperAlley has made it our mission to put creators at the core of everything we do," Arnold said in a statement. "We are excited to apply the same philosophy to the books we publish in the adult market, championing our creators' unique talents, and continuing to produce some of the best comics in the industry”

HarperAlley is looking for adult titles that have both literary and commercial appeal ranging across all genres, including memoir, romance, thriller/mystery, and SFF, as well as "books that aren’t afraid to blur genre lines and push the form into new and unexpected directions," per the publisher.

The imprint already publishes 50 books per year for young readers. The publisher said it will also consider adapting its backlist titles, which include National Book Award finalist Nimona by N.D. Stevenson and the Newbery Medal–winning New Kid by Jerry Craft, for its adult list, to offer "a fresh perspective on already-beloved material."
