Hisae Matsuda, previously senior editor at Parallax Press, has been named publisher of the Buddhist publisher based in Berkeley, Calif. She succeeds Rachel Neumann, who was with the company from 2002-2018.

Matsuda's career in publishing began over 20 years ago with Obunsha, an educational publisher in Tokyo. Prior to joining Parallax in 2016, she worked as an editor of body, mind, and spirit books with North Atlantic Books. As a senior editor at Parallax, she was responsible for editing books on personal and community healing and transformation.

“It is an honor to be invited to step into the publisher role at this time,” Matsuda said in a statement. “With the commodification of mindfulness in practically every area of life, it is utterly refreshing to work with a community of people genuinely engaged in contemplative practice and to publish from that space.”
