NBA Nominee Perkins to Publish Children’s Book with WaterBrook

National Book Award nominee Mitali Perkins will publish Bare Tree and Little Wind: A Story for Holy Week with WaterBrook, an imprint of Random House, in spring 2022. The book, for ages 3 to 8, will be illustrated by Khoa Le. World rights were acquired by executive editor Sarah Rubio from Laura Rennert at the Andrea Brown Literary Agency.

Two Turner Children’s Books Go to Convergent

Convergent, an imprint of Random House, has acquired world rights to two new children’s books from bestselling author Matthew Paul Turner (When God Made You). The first, I Am God’s Dream, will release in January 2022. The storybook, for ages 3-7, is illustrated by Madrid-based Estrella Bascuñan. Convergent editorial director Keren Baltzer negotiated the deal with Greg Daniel of Daniel Literary Group. Turner’s second book is not yet titled or scheduled.

Broadleaf Acquires Psychologist’s Book on Mindfulness

Lil Copan at Broadleaf Books has bought North American rights to Gutsy: Mindfulness Practices for Everyday Bravery by Dr. Lean Katz, a clinical psychologist and writer for Psychology Today. Katz will help readers set aside expectations and step into a more vibrant life. The deal was brokered by Isabelle Bleeker of the Nordlyset Literary Agency. A spring 2022 release is planned.

Podcaster Inks Deal for ‘Love Letter to Black Women’

World rights to tentatively titled Remember Me Now by Faitth Brooks have gone to Becky Nesbitt at WaterBrook & Multnomah. The speaker, activist, and cohost of the Melanated Faith podcast describes the book as a love letter to Black women written through the author’s story of self-discovery and search for value and significance in a world that denies that truth at every turn. Jevon Bolden of Embolden Media Group negotiated the deal. Tentative release date is summer 2022.

IVP to Publish Richard Mouw’s New Book

Richard Mouw, theologian, philosopher and professor of faith and public life at Fuller Theological Seminary, has signed with InterVarsity Press for his next book, tentatively titled How to Be a Patriotic Christian and set for fall 2022 release. The world rights deal was negotiated between Mouw, who represented himself, and Al Hsu, senior editor at IVP.

White Christian Nationalism Examined in Broadleaf Title

Valerie Weaver-Zercher at Broadleaf Books has bought world rights to Preparing for War: How White Christian Nationalism Created MAGA Nation by Bradley Onishi, cohost of the Straight White American Jesus podcast and associate professor of religious studies at Skidmore College. Onishi, who calls himself a former evangelical, examines the role of this movement in the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol. David Morris represented the author in the deal. The book is planned for spring 2023.
