W Lands a Dating Guide

Senior acquisitions editor Kyle Olund at HCCP’s W Publishing imprint acquired world rights from Tom Dean of A Drop of Ink to the first book by husband and wife authors Tovares and Safa Grey. Godly Dating 101: Discover the Truth About Relationships in a World That Constantly Lies applies biblical wisdom to forming healthy relationships, and it’s slated for publication on September 13, 2022.

Brazos Author Explores Identity

In an unagented world rights deal, Katelyn Beaty at Brazos Press acquired Nicole Baker Fulgham’s A Year at the Blacksonian, scheduled for release in spring 2023. Fulgham, a Black Christian and founder of The Expectations Project which focuses on education inequality, shares her experience with identity during one year of visits to the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. in the book.

A Pastor Takes on Power

Brazos’ executive editor Robert Hosack bought world rights directly from author David E. Fitch to the tentatively titled The Church on the Wrong Side of Power. Fitch, theology professor at Northern Seminary in Chicago, urges the church to align itself with those who have the least power, according to the publisher. The book is slated for publication in fall 2023.

Broadleaf Signs Former Miss Canada

Trinity McFadden at The Bindery sold world rights to Lisa Kloskin at Broadleaf Books for a debut nonfiction book from embodiment coach, activist, former Miss Canada, and first-generation Asian Canadian Tara Teng. Your Body is a Revolution “rejects centuries of body-based oppression masquerading as religion,” and encourages reads to seek the voice of God, according to the publisher. The book is slated for publication in 2023.

David C Cook Focuses on Women

Keely Boeving of Wordserve Literary Group sold world rights to Susan McPherson at David C Cook to a nonfiction book by Natalie Runion, the women’s pastor at New Life Church in Colorado Springs. The currently untitled book, planned for spring 2023, encourages readers who are questioning their relationship with the church “to take the focus off hurt, offense, and fear” in order to move forward in their faith.

Beaming Celebrates Diwali

Naomi Krueger at Beaming Books took world rights from Lynnette Novak at The Seymour Agency to Diwali in My New Home by Shachi Kaushik, with illustrations by Aishwarya Tandon. The children’s book follows a young girl participating in Diwali—a religious festival of lights celebrated in India—for the first time from her new home in the U.S. Claire Draper at The Bent Agency represented the illustrator in the deal. Publication is scheduled for fall 2022.
