WaterBrook Asks Questions

Janet Kobobel Grant of Books & Such Literary sold world rights to Laura Barker of WaterBrook to Before You Meet Your Future Husband: 30 Questions & 30 Prayers by Robin Jones Gunn and Tricia Goyer. A follow-up to the authors’ 2011 Praying for Your Future Husband, the new book is for women in their teens and twenties and slated for publication in spring 2023. This will be Gunn's 103rd published book, while Goyer has more than 80 published books.

Broadleaf Welcomes ‘Holy Runaways’

Broadleaf acquisitions editor Lisa Kloskin bought world rights from Rachelle Gardner of Gardner Literary to a second book from psychotherapist and podcaster Matthias Roberts. Tentatively titled Holy Runaways, Roberts—author of Beyond Shame: Creating a Healthy Sex Life on Your Own Terms and host of Queerology: A Podcast on Belief and Being—aims to “walk alongside readers who are deconstructing their faith, helping them reimagine God, themselves, and the definition of faith,” according to the publisher. The book is scheduled for publication in fall 2023.

All’s Well at IVP Kids

Cindy Bunch, v-p of editorial for IVP, took world rights directly from author Lacy Finn Borgo to All Will Be Well: Learning to Trust God’s Love. Scheduled for publication October 4, 2022 via IVP Kids, the picture book features a grandmother’s love for her granddaughter that incorporates the wisdom of mystic and theologian Julian of Norwich. Essie White of Storm Literary Agency represented the illustrator, Rebecca Evans.

Ulysses Traces Satanism’s History

Casie Vogel, editorial director at Ulysses Press, bought world rights from Lindsay Edgecombe of Levine Greenberg Rostan Literary Agency to alternative culture journalist La Carmina’s The Little Book Of Satanism. The book examines the history and culture of Satanism, including “lurid conspiracy theories about serial killers and ritual abuse, and showing why many Satanists today stand up for free inquiry and personal liberty,” according to the publisher. Publication is scheduled for October 4, 2022.

Plantinga Takes Flight at Brazos

Robert Hosack, executive acquisitions editor at Brazos, bought world rights from David Bratt of BBH Literary to Cornelius Plantinga’s Under the Wings of God. Plantinga, senior research fellow at the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship and president emeritus of Calvin Theological Seminary, addresses unrest in the church and the world today in the new book, which is slated for publication in spring 2023.

Mom Podcaster Lands at Tyndale

Tyndale Kids associate publisher Linda Howard bought world rights from Dave Schroeder at WTA Media LLC to Audra Haney’s picture book He Is There, to be released in March 2023. Haney, host and producer of the 5 Minute Mom podcast, reminds children that God is always with them.

Jewish Baseballer’s Story Lands at Behrman

Dena Neusner at Behrman House bought world rights from Susan Cohen at PearlCo Literary Agency, LLC for Hank on First by Stephen Krenksy. Hank on First is a picture book for kids about the baseball player Hank Greenberg that explores how he balanced his love of baseball with his Jewish heritage, and how he stood up for his beliefs. Publication is scheduled for March 2023. Robbin Brosterman at the Bright Agency represented illustrator Alette Straathof in the deal.

Kar-Ben Buys Snake Tale Retelling for Kids

Joni Sussman at Kar-Ben Publishing bought world rights from Caryn Weisman of the Andrea Brown Literary Agency to Zhen Yu and the Snake by Hong-Kong based author Erica Lyons. The picture book is a retelling of the famous story of Rabbi Akiva’s daughter and the snake from the Talmud, this time set in Kaifeng, China in the 12th century. Publication is scheduled for fall 2023. Robbin Brosterman at the Bright Agency represented illustrator Renia Metallinou in the deal.
