It’s finally here, and I’m so excited to get it into people’s hands!” says Tara-Leigh Cobble, creator of The Bible Recap 365-Day Chronological Study Bible (TBR Bible). She calls it “the capstone resource” of The Bible Recap’s series of resources.

TBR Bible blends the Bible text (ESV version) with the ever-popular, easy-to-read work of Cobble, creator of The Bible Recap podcast, which took the #1 spot across all categories on Apple podcasts in January 2024 and hit #2 in January 2025. Cobble walks readers and listeners through the entire Bible in the course of a year. Reflection comes in the form of a “God Shot”—a snapshot of God and His character—from that day’s reading.

“By fixing our eyes on God, we aren’t burdened with having to immediately and thoroughly understand every doctrinal nuance,” Cobble says. “Instead, we’re buoyed by His character and carried along by knowing God more every day.” She knew she wanted to give readers and listeners what they wanted. “For years, TBR followers have been asking for a book that contains both the Bible and The Bible Recap,” she says. “And they’ve especially wanted it to be laid out in the order of our chronological reading plan.”

The Bible Recap in all its editions has sold more than 1,000,000 copies, with related product sales bringing the entire line of books to more than 1.5 million, says Stephanie Smith, senior marketing manager and brand manager for TBR. The eponymous podcast has been streamed roughly 500 million times across platforms such as YouTube, Apple and Spotify podcasts, and the YouVersion Bible app, Smith says.

Additional products in The Bible Recap ministry include a study guide, deluxe editions, a variety of bindings, and The Bible Recap for Kids, all published by Bethany House Publishers, a division of Baker Publishing Group. The publisher offers TBR Bible in several versions, including exclusive black cowhide genuine leather, pink hardcover vegan leather, and brown softcover vegan leather.

This streamlined, two-in-one reading experience offers a new way to learn from and understand Scripture, appealing to those who are new to the Bible as well as those who have been reading it since childhood. “We’ve created a resource that makes it easier than ever for people to read, understand, and love the Bible—and the God who wrote it! He’s where the joy is!” Cobble says.

She had started a Bible study network called D-Group—discipleship group— International, soon coming to realize that comprehension was the main obstacle when reading Scripture. This prompted a podcast to help D-Group members read and understand the Bible.

"My prayer was that 25% of our members, about 300 people, would join me,” Cobble says. “I never dreamed it would eventually hit #1 on the Apple Podcast charts. It’s so encouraging to see how so many people want to read the Bible.”

“I was a day-one listener of The Bible Recap podcast and was hooked immediately,” says Jeff Braun, executive acquisitions editor for Bethany House. “Two weeks later, I emailed Cobble through her website saying that I thought the recaps and chronological Bible reading plan would make a great book.”

While recent research by Circana BookScan shows increased Bible sales, “that’s not what drove us to publish the TBR Bible,” said Andy McGuire, vice president of editorial at Bethany House. “Rather, it was a response to multiple, frequent requests from fans of The Bible Recap asking for a Bible Recap Bible.” Planning started in early 2023 as the response from “Recappers” continued to grow. “It’s been a personal dream of Tara-Leigh’s and a fan-requested product since the beginning of the podcast,” Smith says.

Bethany House will publish a King James Version edition of The Bible Recap Bible next year and is exploring other translations as well. According to Bethany House, readers can look forward to additional products as well as kids’ titles in the future.
